science_fair_pics_009.jpgcccccccccc.jpg

Specific Question

What is the most shot percentage on the basketball court? Shots performed are foul shot, three pointer, 45 degree angle shot, jumper, and in the key shot.

Broad Question

How does a basketball go into the hoop?

Materials list

Variables nee to be controlled are the basketballs and the hoops.

Independent Variable: The type of shot

Dependent Variable: The locations where I and volunteers will take the shot.

Variables That Need To Be Controlled: The basketball and the basketball hoop.

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that the 45 degree angle shots will have the most baskets in, and the in the key shot will have the second most. science_fair_pics_013.jpggggggggggg.jpg

Detailed Procedure

  1. I will go to the KMS gym with two other people.
  2. I will take shots from the 45 degree angle first, while I am shoot one person will be taking pictures of me, and the other will get my rebounds from my shots.
  3. After I took all 50 shots from 45 degrees I will right down how many I made
  4. Next I will shoot from the in the paint shot, and the two people will do the same thing, rebound and take pictures for the whole experiment.
  5. Then I will write down how many shots I made from in the key shot.
  6. After that I will take foul shots.
  7. Then I will write down how many foul shots I made.
  8. After that I will take jumpers or the middle shot.
  9. Then I will write down how mane jumpers I made.
  10. The last type of shot I will be taking is the three pointers.
  11. After shooting in will write down how, any three pointers I made.
  12. Then I will repeat this for one more trial.
After all the trails are done I will put the data on Google docs

Experimental Design

(add the correct headings from the experimental design page before beginning)
I am experimenting to see if different basketball shots have a higher percentage than other basketball shots. The different types of shots are the three point shot, the jumper, the foul shot, the in the key shot and the 45 degree angle shot. My experiment will be held in the Kennett Middle School gym after school or during the day. There will be three subjects in my experiment. Many people (me) will shoot the basketball. Subject two will get the rebounds from the shots of subject one. While all of this is happening subject three will take pictures of subjects one and two. There are five shots that I am shooting from. Spot one is the 45 degree angle shot, the next shot is shooting in the key, the next shot is a jumper, the next shot is the foul shot, and the last shot is the three pointers. I will shoot 50 shots per trial. I will do two trails. As I do my experiment I will write down the data on the spread sheet I have made. I will record my data on a printed out spread sheet then I will put the data on Google docs.

Background Research

The information given was how to shoot a basketball correctly. The book also showed how to position your feet and body to. The websites
showed was the history of basketball and how shooting the basketball became a big deal and if we didn’t have basketball in the start there would be no league today. This helped me go through my project with a better understanding of the game and the shots taken. Another Webster shower the best spots to plant your feet while shooting and how much back spin to put on your shot. This website also showed a video how to shoot jumpers. The website showed the angles to shoot at from different spots like the three and foal and jumpers. This is all important because so i have solid data to make a graph with. This is my background research.

Results

My results were that the 45 degree angle shot had the most shots made out of ten trials with ten shots in each trial. In second was in the key shot fallowed by foul shot, jump shot and last three point shot.

Data Analysis

Conclusion

The results of my experiment were that for the boys and girls was that the 45 degree shot, the shot that came in second was the in the paint shot or in the key shot. The shot that came in third was the foul shot. Then came the jump shot and then the three point shot last. This was the case for both boys and girls. The original purpose of my experiment was to find out the best place to shoot a basketball on the basketball court.

Discussion

My hypothesis was that of my science fair was that the 45 degree angle shot was the most percentage shot made of the three pointers, jump shots, foul shots, in the paint shots, and 45 degree shots. My results of my data supported my hypothesis. There were a lot of patterns in my data taking. One of the most patterns that I saw was with the 45 degree angle shot the most missed from a person in one trial is two. I think my science fair went very smooth. Everyone was doing what I said when I need them to do what I needed them to do. The data was easy to take because if the person missed a shot I would put a circle. If the person got the basketball in the hoop I put an x. when I did my science fair sp easy and it was nice. If I could I would change my experiment I would only take like to people at a time to do the trials. There were sometimes too many people there to do the trials. An interesting future study or experiment is the back spin on a basketball shot.
